I like to think of The DARK-HUNTER INSIDER'S GUIDE as an "extra" in the series. It is not going to please everyone, and at its original hefty hardcover release price, was a bit costly when considering that the content was a lot of "little bits." Even more disappointing for Kindle owners was the fact that the Kindle versions of this product were unable to be run their e-content on a Kindle! Having said that, and acknowledging the legitimate disappointment of a number of purchasers, it bears saying that the content -- in terms of Dark-Hunter characters and stories -- is interesting and does round out (or answer questions regarding) a number of the characters and their stories in the series. My advice for compendium publications such as these is this: Get a look at one before you buy. Whether you go to a public library, browse through it in a bookstore, or try to get a perspective on the e-book content by downloading the Kindle sample, look not only at the table of contents, but at the stories and entries, to be certain if this book is for you.
Often, an "insider's guide" is a bit more like a magazine than a true book. If you enjoy the format and the "little bit of a lot" of different things (short stories, author musings, interviews. etc.), then this book may be a fun addition to a serious fan's collection. If you are not a serious Dark-Hunter fan, then please look closely before you buy, or you may end up agreeing with the less-than-flattering reviews. For my part, I enjoyed this book very much, and I am a big DH fan!

Sherrilyn Kenyon DarkHunter An Insider Guide eBook Sherrilyn Kenyon Reviews
These short stories give an inside view of a couple of Dark-Hunters. I especially enjoy the little videos of Sherrilyn explaining a little about the process of writing and the characters.
Jamie Gallagher about his great love for his wife, who just died about 3 months prior. He runs into his own great-granddaughter. What a shock.
A short exert about Nick becoming Ambrosious, and what the name really means.
This book also touches bases on the Hellchasers which are just ordinary people no experience in fighting.
Having read several of Ms. Kenyon's books, I expected much more than a rehash of a couple of scenes from her other books. These weren't even stories, they were vignettes from her character's lives. They were almost promos for those books, except that would imply there was some story being told. There isn't.
If you get this for a dollar or less, sure, get it. If it costs anything more, don't waste your money. Just read one of her novels instead. These 'stories' add nothing to the characters that have already been written.
I've read quite a few of the Dark Hunter books, but was starting to get confused about who was related to whom, and a bit tired of the formula of "unfairly tortured but beautiful man betrayed by a beautiful damsel becomes a tortured Dark Hunter who then finds a virtuous soulmate to redeem him". Even the few female Dark Hunters were the same. I had hoped these would be good short stories that filled in some of the missing plots, but the stories themselves feel more like chapters edited from other books. If you love the books, you'll love these, but don't expect any of these to be an introduction to the universe. In fact, one of the short stories that features Acheron's brother Styxx makes no sense after reading the book Styxx. Although reality can be malleable, Acheron's brother describes himself as never having been anything but a pampered prince who hated to even touch Acheron, when his book has an entirely different history. I wish that I had gotten this from the library rather than purchased it.
This short story collection brings together five stories from the Dark-Hunter universe, all but one previously released elsewhere The Promise, Dark Hunter Christmas, Second Chances, Fear of Darkness. and Where Angels Fear To Tread. Three fill in small gaps in the overall storyline, one is a stand-alone, and one is a hint of things to come.
THE PROMISE is a VERY brief but emotional story that gives us Acheron's response to Cherise's death. It also includes a promise that will have major ramifications for Nick and Ash.
DARK HUNTER CHRISTMAS is a stand alone story that gives us Gallagher as he struggles with being separated from a family who thinks he is dead until he realizes he is already part of a new family. A feel good story that adds nothing to the mythology, but is a good read.
SECOND CHANCES is another very brief gap-filler. Whatever happened to Styxx after he tried to kill Ash? This has more impact if you've already read Acheron (Dark-Hunter, Book 12).
FEAR THE DARKNESS was a free ebook rthat followed-up with Nick after the death of his mother. It is a sinister-feeling story that helps set the stage for what is to come. I'm not a fan of Nick, so this didn't grab me, but most fans will love it.
Finally, we have WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD that after finishing, I wondered if it was mistakenly included in this collection because it didn't seem to belong in the Dark-Hunter saga. There was nothing in it that marked it as a D-H story. However, it is actually a hint of the Hellchaser story arc that formally begins in Bad Moon Rising. This little snippet doesn't offer much other than to introduce one of the Hellchasers, Zeke.
Overall, these little bits are especially worthwhile for fans, but not strictly necessary for the series as a whole. You can skip them and not miss anything (especially since Fear the Darkness is available free), but it's always nice to return to Kenyon's world. I only wish they'd release a hardcover comprising ALL the D-H short stories from various anthologies over the years. Dresden Files and Sookie Stackhouse have both done so, and I would love to have them all in one volume. My biggest regret for this Insider Guide is that the video content cannot be viewed on the . Recommended.
