Amazing story, amazing writing, a classic. This is one of my go-to reads for historical romance. Eloisa James writes insightful, entertaining romance. I especially loved Villiers! A duke owning up to his past indiscretions and taking responsibility for his illegitimate children is a man I can root for. His path to finding love with Eleanor was perfectly imperfect...the kind of book I want to read again and again (and I do!).Tags : A Duke of Her Own (Desperate Duchesses) [Eloisa James] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. A Duke of Her Own Desperate Duchesses Eloisa James 9780061626838 Books Reviews
Once again, Eloisa James leaves me begging for more.
The Duke of Villiers, whom we've read quite a bit about in the previous Duchesses novels, is looking for a wife. Specifically, he requires the daughter of a duke. His six illegitimate children need a mother, and Villiers is determined to marry a woman of the highest standing in the hopes that his children will be accepted into Society.
Eleanor Lindel is the daughter of a duke--and a beautiful one at that. Once spurned in love by her childhood sweetheart, she has declared that only a duke will do when it comes to marriage. Naturally, when she meets Villiers, he seems to be a practical solution.
But Eleanor has competition in the form of the angelically lovely Lisette. The only other available daughter of a duke in the ton, Lisette is widely believed to be mad. But Villiers ignores such rumors and chooses to forge ahead with his plan to choose between Eleanor and the lovely Lisette. While Lisette proves herself to be quite maternal at least superficially, Eleanor is the one who makes his heart race.
When Gideon--Eleanor's lost love--makes an appearance at the country house, Villiers realizes that the tables have turned and now he faces competition.
One of the things I enjoy most about James's novels is her significant research. I read mostly for entertainment, but I also love to learn along the way. I always come away from a James novel with a new tidbit of knowledge about Shakespeare or the Georgian era or what have you. Because of her efforts to be authentic, her novels are always believable. And because I've read the entire series up to this point--watching Villiers's character develop along the way--it was immensely gratifying to see Villiers finally open his heart to someone other than the Duchess of Beaumont.
Loved the interaction between Leopold and Eleanor. Still waiting for the stories of their and his children. The extra story of when Eleanor had their first baby was wonderful. I laughed with tears in my eyes.
Having read the previous book in this series, I was most anxious to read this hero's story as well. It was obvious he hadn't lived a very happy or fulfilling life. This book fulfilled my anticipation totally! I fell in love with this hero, while reading the story of his maturing during the story and living up to his potential. I will admit that a couple of times I had to wonder which direction the story was going to take but I very much enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading more books by this author!
I really really wanted to know more about the Duke of Villiers after glimpsing his intriguing self in previous tales. His story did not disappoint. I am so glad he was able to find his heart in Eleanor's hands. Truly a love story worth discovering.
I so enjoy reading Eloise James' writing. Loved Leopold and Eleanor's HEA. The storyline was unlike any I've seen before, and it kept me reading long into the night. There is a host of wonderful characters in this series, and having only read two of the books (out of order, as I was anxious to read Villiers' story), I'm looking forward to reading the others in this Desperate Duchesses series.
This series is absolutely beautifully and exquisitely written full of love, laughter, pain and forgiveness. If you want to truly appreciate these books, start at book 1 and proceed. You'll be glad you did. THANK YOU Ms James for all of the wonderful hours of reading you have given to my life.
This book stands beautifully on its own, and is a breathtakingly perfect conclusion to all the previous Desperate Duchess books which include Villiers, this hero. He is elegant, enticing, multi-faceted and delicious. The heroine is unique, warm, intelligent, warm-hearted and they are each other's equal and match. The writing is fantastic witty, lively, thoroughly engaging. I recommend this book highly.
